GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Department is the first recruitment place in the faculty where patients’ medical examinations, radiological studies and diagnosis are made, with systemic evaluations distinguish oral lesions which seem to be same appearance but have different origins and prognosis, and following to consign patients to relevant departments for obtaining treatment in the faculty. Our department serves with a heading Assistant Professor (Assist. Prof. Dr. Murat İÇEN), a resident (Assist. Prof. Gediz GEDUK) and two radiology technicians (Enes KOZAN and Selçuk Yılmaz GÖKMEN).
Theoretical and clinical practices in 3rd, 4th and 5th years and also graduate studies are carried out at our department. Our department has two clinics. Patient’s first examination is carried out by three different units at Oral Diagnosis clinic. The radiographic examinations are carried out at Radiology Clinic. In this clinic, there is a periapical radiography device, 1 digital panoramic imaging device, 1 dental volumetric tomography medical monitors and various computer softwares are used for radiographic examination of the patients and for academic studies at Radiology Clinic.
The aim of the department is to educate knowledgeable and highly-skilled specialists who can successfully make the diagnosis and then treatment plans of their patients, carry out and interpret the radiological techniques, and conduct research and interpret the results in the related field.
1.Knowledge: To gain knowledge on medical history, perform an intra-oral and extra-oral examination, have knowledge of radiation, radiation damages and radiation protection, evaluate the systemic symptoms, elicit the vital symptoms and the reason of the pain, elicit the maxilla, sinus, salivary gland, arthrosis pathology and radiology, perform laboratory tests and examination and make diagnosis and the treatment plan of the patients, perform an implant implementation and a radiographic assessment, elicit the lesions on radio opaque, radiolucent and soft issue on bones.
2.Skills: To run x-rays and automatic processors for radiograph, conduct the research methods.
3.Attitude: To respect to the ethical values in research, comprehend and adopt the power of scientific methods, obey the patient’s right, exhibit honest and coherent attitude in human relations, follow the latest technological and scientific developments, understand the importance of lifelong self-learning.
The mission of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology is to educate the pre-doctoral and dentistry students, auxiliary health staff, exchange students, dentists and other medical personnel in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and to keep the oral diseases of patients at a minimum level in Western Black Sea Region.
Our department adopts chasing, developing and pioneering the discoveries and inventions in related fields to our subject and on the technological progresses and servicing on oral pathologyand as a fundamental principle, offer the best possible health service to Zonguldak and envoirment citizens.
